In September 2009 a series of natural disasters pummelled Metropolitan Manila area and the rest of Luzon including the mountainous areas of the Mountain Province, Isabela, Cagayan Valley, Pangasinan and Ilocos Region. Thousands of families in the Philippines were badly affected by typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng. Even the homes of OFW’s families were also seriously damaged. This disastrous event in the Philippines activated Saudi-Arabia-based PSSP-MER to initiate action to support our distressed kababayans back home.

Professional Safety Management & Career Development
The Philippine Society of Safety Practitioners-Middle East Region (PSSP-MER) has successfully completed the last seminar for the year 2009 on December 25, 2009. The topic for the morning workshop was PROFESSIONAL SAFETY MANAGEMENT and CAREER DEVELOPMENT presented by PSSP-MER President (A), Engr. Levi S. Alejo, a Certified OHSAS 18001 Auditor, Registered HSE Practitioner and a Certified HSE Trainer, accredited by DOLE-BWC of the Philippines.
Developing a Safety Program
PSSP-MER recently conducted a seminar workshop attended by more than 200 participants from current members / officers and the news members of the safety society. It is another milestone in the society’s drive to achieve its goal of promoting continuing safety education of its members. The subject “DEVELOPING A SAFETY PROGRAM” was presented on November 27, 2009 @ Dhahran Palace Hotel, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

PSSP-MER got another milestone in achieving its goal in promoting continuing education and enhancement of knowledge and skills of the members. Surprisingly, more than 240 participants attended the presentation concerning “Safety on Pipeline Construction, From Start to Finish” presented on October 30, 2009 @ Dhahran Palace Hotel, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Engr. Levi S. Alejo, the technical speaker showcased the overview on various inter-connected activities when starting through completing pipeline construction works.
Seminar on Traffic & Vehicle Safety
On September 25, 2009, the Philippine Society of Safety Practitioners, Middle East Region (PSSP-MER) once again successfully accomplished another seminar workshop on Traffic and Vehicle Safety in Construction Work Zones, presented by the PSSP-MER Founder/Sec. General Renato "Rey" Barraca, Saudi Aramco PMT Department Safety Coordinator & DOLE-BWC accredited safety practitioner.

Seminar on Portable Power Tools Safety
The PSSP-MER conducted a seminar workshop on Portable Power Tools Safety at Dhahran Palace Hotel, Dhahran, KSA last September 25, 2009 attended by PSSP-MER members, officers & Board of Directors. A half day of a detailed & concise explanation on the topic is shared by the resource speaker Mr. Peter Q. Panganiban, a Safety Advisor by occupation, DOLE-BWC accredited safety practitioner & the PSSP-MER Treasurer.
